Walk for Hunger 2004
Walk for Hunger 2004 was a great success! It was held on October 10, 2004 at Charles Creek Park. Over 250 walkers, joggers, bikers, and skaters participated. Thanks to the generosity of the participants and their many sponsors, over $23,000 was raised to help the needy and hungry in northeast North Carolina.
From elementary school children to senior citizens they all cheered when Mr. Gus Smith, the Executive Director of the Food Bank of the Albemarle, reminded them in his opening remarks that when "the $20,000 goal was met, we would be able to provide over 160,000 pounds of food or the equivalent of 120,000 meals". From start to finish their enthusiasm never waned. After the race, all enjoyed well-deserved drinks, hot dogs, chips, crackers, and the satisfaction of an afternoon well spent.
Take a look at the following pictures from the Walk for Hunger. You might recognize yourself or a friend. In any event, each person you see is someone who cares about the hungry people in our communities in northeast North Carolina. Thank you!!
