| At the Board of Directors meeting held Monday, June 26, 2000, the Search
Committee for a new Executive Director for the Food Bank of the Albemarle
made its recommendation.
After an extensive search and interview process that took months, the Search Committee recommended Gustave G. Smith. Mr. Smith has been functioning as the Acting Executive Directory since early April. Mr. Smith is mission oriented and has an extensive background in the non-profit field in management, fund raising, resource development and working with volunteers for over thirty years. He has served for many years as a Directory and Executive Director on a national level, working with various types of church related service organization statewide and nationwide. He and his wife, Victoria (Carter) Smith, are residents of Elizabeth City. Victoria is a social worker with the Pasquotank County Department of Social Services. He is eagerly looking forward to working with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and agencies as total team effort to fight hunger in Northeastern North Carolina. There are over 50,000 men, women, and children in the 15 counties we serve who are or below the poverty level. Mr. Smith said that the Food Bank of the Albemarle will be there to assist those in need or emergency who come through our doors asking for help. If they can't come to us, we will take the help to them through one of the 140 agencies of the Food Bank. He said that the Food Bank anticipates distributing over 3,000,000 pounds of food this year and will approach 4,000,000 pounds in 2001. If you get the opportunity, please stop by and see our facility and say hello to Mr. Gus, as he has become affectionately known in Elizabeth City. He is looking forward to meeting all of you, having you visit the beautiful new facility, meet the staff and talk about the VISION for the future with the Food Bank. |
