SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) is a non-profit organization that gives students the tools to learn the free enterprise system in real working situation.

SIFE challenges students on more than 700 college campuses worldwide to take what they are learning in the classroom and use their knowledge to better their communities.  Students are guided by faculty advisors who are named Sam W. Walton Free Enterprise Fellows, in honor of the late Wal-Mart founder.  Elizabeth City State University's faculty advisors are Dr. Nogzi Oriaku and Ebere Oriaku.

SIFE teams establish a variety of community outreach programs that teach free enterprise.  For example, they teach concepts such as computer applications and advocate community computer training.  They help budding entrepreneurs get their plans off the ground and mentor artist students, inspiring them to reach for their dreams.

ECSU's team participated in a community outreach project involving the Food Bank of the ALbemarle and presented the Food Bank with a $100 donation.  The check was presented to Food Bank representatives Liza Reasoner, Operations Manager; Margaret Evans, Office Manager; and C. Knight, Administrative Assistant/SIFE Publication Relation Coordinator.

ECSU's SIFE team is dedicated to promoting community service in Elizabeth City.  The project is a part of SIFE's national campaign MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY, which was October 28, 2000.
