What a surprise!
Mr. Phil Dunn, Vice President of Acquisitions of BH Properties, LLC, (the company that manages the old Wal-Mart shopping center) recently presented a check for $2,500 to Liz Reasoner. The donation will enable us to provide about 7,500 pounds of food. That is the equivalent of about 6,250 meals. Rounding Up -- Adds Up
Many members of the Albemarle Electric Membership Corporation (AEMC) take one action each month that helps hungry and needy men, women, and children in our communities. These members allow their electric bills to be rounded up. Those extra cents grow and are then distributed by a separate organization named the Albemarle Community Trust. Mr. Chad Thomas, the President of the Trust, accompanied by Chris Powell, AEMC's Director of Public Relations, recently presented the Food Bank with a donation of $5,000 to Liz Reasoner, Executive Director of the Food Bank, on behalf of the Foundation and the hundreds of members who say "yes" each month and allow their bill to be rounded up. That is enough money to enable the Food Bank to povide about 25,000 pounds of food. ACE Hardware 2009 Golf Tournament Huge Success
The day was a bit dreary, but a good time was had by all. On April 15th, 13 teams teed off at The Pointe Golf Club for the second Ace Hardware Community Golf Tournament to benefit your Food Bank. The team at The Point did a magnificent job. Even though no one won the hole-in-one Chevy Malibu, there was one big winner -- the Food Bank and the hungry we serve. Enough was raised to provide over 50,000 pounds of food. Special thanks to Ace Hardware in Dare, Currituck, and Pasquotank counties for their leadership donation, Victory Chevrolet-Buick-Pontiac for the hole-in-one prize, and the players, hole sponsors, and other donors who made the day special and successful. Photo by Daryl Law, Outer Banks Sentinel Jo Whitehead, the owner of Awful Arthur's Oyster Bar on the Outer Banks, receives the Dine Out to Help Out, Platinum Spoon Award for 2008. The award recognizes the restaurant that donated the most as a result of Dine Out to Help Out 2008. This was the fourth year in a row that Awful Aurthur's won the award. The Food Bank is very grateful to Jo and the many restaurant owners who give so generously and make Dine Out a success. In 2008, over $19,100 was donated by owners. They made life better for so many hungry men, women and children in our communities. |
