The Food Pantry
[Return to Services]

The Direct Services Program provides food, advocacy, and referrals to qualified individuals. The local food sources are almost entirely from canned food drives by local churches, scout troops, schools, organizations, businesses, local farmers and grocery stores.

Referrals include budget counseling, EFNEP for food and nutrition management, and adult protective services if the client is unable to handle their own resources. The Intake Coordinator is also a member of the Pasquotank Interagency Council, which allows her to keep in touch with those agencies that may be valuable to the client.

Assistance is given to food recipients by helping them advocate for themselves with other agencies. They are encouraged to make phone calls and appointments for themselves and staff is always available to guide them when they don't know what questions to ask or how to find the answers for themselveses for their food needs.
