Walk for Hunger

On Sunday. October 9, the Food Bank of the Albemarle's

28th ANNUAL WALK FOR HUNGER

was the biggest and the best ever!

On October 9th, the Food Bank of the Albemarle held its 28th Annual Walk for Hunger at Charles Creek Park in Elizabeth City.  The event is the organization’s biggest fundraiser and was again a huge success, as more than 500 walkers joined together to help the Food Bank of the Albemarle.  The success of this event depends entirely on the support of the 15-county region that we serve.  Yet again, local communities, churches, businesses and individuals have stepped up to the plate for the Food Bank.  The Food Bank would like to say THANK YOU to the community for its continued support of the organization and its mission.  It would be impossible to do this work without its commitment and support.

For every dollar raised by the participants, the Food Bank can, in turn, provide about five pounds of food to the hungry in our community.  That is the equivalent of four meals to people who may otherwise do without.  Some highlights of the successes of this year’s event:

Dollars Raised:  $39,538

Approximate Food Provided by Funds: 197,690 lbs./158,152 meals

Don’t forget that the need for support is not limited to special events and campaigns.  The Food Bank always needs volunteers and donations are always welcome.  Again, without the support of this community, the Food Bank would not be able to achieve these successes and provide these services.  Time and again, YOU step up to help out.
