Volunteer Opportunities
The Food Bank of the Albemarle is open non-holiday weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. We always need volunteer help during those hours.
We realize that there are many people and groups who would like to volunteer, but their work schedule conflicts with the regular Food Bank hours of operation. So, in addition to our regular hours, the Food Bank will be open - BY ADVANCE ARRANGEMENT - on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM and until 7:00 PM on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
We welcome your help during our expanded hours as well as during our regular hours. If you would like to help out on any of those days/times, please call our Volunteer Coordinator Laura Williams at 335-4035 (ext. 105) or our Warehouse Supervisor Troy Jerkins (ext. 103).
Here are just a few of the ways you could help out and make a difference.
| Intake Worker |
Meet with clients one-on-one to understand their needs. Determine client eligibility. Fill out interview paperwork. |
| Office Assistant |
Enter data. Assist with bulk mailings. Perform general clerical tasks -- filing, sorting, proof reading, etc. Answer the phone. |
| Public Relations |
Write and/or call your legislators to express your ideas about hunger and poverty issues. Talk about Food Bank of the Albemarle with people you know. Get us invited to talk to a group at your church, club, work, etc. Take our exhibit to community events and distribute information about our services. |
| Special Events |
Help with advertising, marketing, logistics, and any of the multiple activities it takes to have a successful special event. You don't have to volunteer regularly to be a big help! Occasionally, we have need for help when regular volunteers are not available or there are simply not enough of them to get a job done. Consider letting us give you a call on those occasions … the choice will be yours as to whether or not you can offer a helping hand. |
