Call to Action
Our Representatives In the U.S. Congress
Need to Hear from You
Regarding Proposed Budget Cuts
That Would Seriously Affect Our Work
Across Northeast North Carolina
ACT NOW:
Last week’s failure by the Congressional Supercommittee to reach agreement makes it appear that budget cuts affecting us here at the Food Bank of the Albemarle are a thing of the past. We know this is not the case.
We watched carefully as the House and Senate Agriculture Committees made major recommendations to the Supercommittee for cuts that would have devastating effects on our programs and services. We realize that those recommendations died with the Supercommittee’s failure to act, but we have concerns about 1) the likelihood that cuts will occur in other ways, and 2) the automatic 2012 cuts that are on the horizon.
WE NEED FOR YOU TO EMAIL OUR

The key ingredient in all this is TAKING ACTION NOW!
Dear Senator/Representative _______:
On behalf of THE FOOD BANK OF THE ALBEMARLE, I strongly urge you to oppose cuts to anti-hunger programs as part of deficit reduction.
Literally thousands of men, women and children across our 15 county service area in northeast North Carolina struggle to put food on the table. The Food Bank of the Albemarle is working to fill the need in our communities, and I am happy to support their outstanding efforts in a variety of roles. However, charity alone cannot meet the need for food assistance. The government must do its part, too, especially during this time of record need due to widespread unemployment and the weak economy. As your constituent, I strongly oppose cuts to critical anti-hunger programs like SNAP (formerly food stamps), The Emergency Food Assistance Program, which supports the work of food banks, and programs targeting vulnerable seniors and children like CSFP and WIC.
I ask you to please remember our neighbors who are struggling against hunger in the Albemarle Area and across the State of North Carolina. I urge you to weigh in personally with the Agriculture Committees and the Congressional leadership urging them NOT to include cuts to anti-hunger programs in their deficit reduction proposals in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
(Be very specific about the agency you represent and your role)
