After School Feeding
It is hard to concentrate if your tummy is growling, isn’t it? It is doubly hard for young children. That is why the Food Bank of the Albemarle currently partners with the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools to provide after school snacks for two groups of children.
The first group is children participating in the Extra Program at all seven of the district’s elementary schools. About 178 children are helped in that program. The second group is composed of 140 children who are benefiting from additional after school tutoring with their reading and math skills. Imagine how much more these children are helped because they are not trying to concentrate on an empty stomach.
Additionally, your Food Bank partners with Food for Thought in Dare County to help provide a weekend backpack of food for children in the county’s schools. The children, whose parents sign them up to participate, receive food each Friday during the school year to help sustain them over the weekend when meal support from the schools is not available.
