The Mission of the Food Bank is to fight hunger and poverty in our 15-county service area (click here for map) in northeast North Carolina. We are a regional clearing house for the collection and distribution of food and grocery items to non-profit and faith-based organizations for their food programs and to eligible individuals for their food needs. We are guided by a set of Core Values (see menu on left) and a Vision for the future: Our Communities Are Hunger Free.
The Food Bank of the Albemarle is a member of the national network of food banks called Feeding America that accepts large food donations from processors, distributors, farmers and retail corporations. Our job - through our member agencies - is to get that food and other products out to as many hungry men, women and children as possible in our 15-county service area.
Agencies place orders from an up-to-date list of available products. Items are pulled from the warehouse and prepared for pickup or delivery. While about 50% of our product is distributed at no cost, a small shared maintenance fee (.19/lb.) is charged in some cases to help cover our cost of warehousing, transportation, and staffing.
The Food Bank of the Albemarle has 134 partner agencies that include food pantries, soup kitchens, day care centers, after school programs, backpack programs, mobile food pantries, shelters, adult day care centers, supplemental nutrition programs and more. Every effort is made to reach into every part of our service area.
