First Annual Holiday Marathon Food Drive
It was cold, blustery, and at times rainy, but that didn't dampen or chill the enthusiasm of the team as they kicked off the first ever Elizabeth City Holiday Marathon Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of the Albemarle and the poor and needy in our area. Mr. William A. "Billy" Sale spearheaded the marathon. He coordinated with the food bank, arranged advertising, positioned a collection truck, and even provided fantastic homemade Bar-B-Q for the volunteers. The picture shows Billy and Gene Flora during one of the few quiet moments of the marathon.
After 56 hours of collecting food, cheerleading for his team, and meeting donors, all he could say was "there were no words to describe the overwhelming feeling I had on Sunday night when we delivered our weekend's work to the food bank. We made it possible for The Food Bank of the Albemarle to provide over 11,000 pounds of food to our community during this joyous time of year."
In addition to Billy and his team, the Food Bank of the Albemarle would like to thank the local Pepsi Distributing Company for providing the truck. Such dramatic success would not have been possible without their support.
Billy, and his team, is already looking forward to next year and the 2nd Annual Marathon Food Drive. We are too! |
